How Your Business Should
Act Like a Snowflake

If someone walked up to you and said "you should make your business more like a snowflake" you'd probably think they were a little crazy. Do they think your business should be made from ice crystals? Be cold or melty? Fall from the sky? None of these seem like desirable business attributes.

But, there's one thing that each and every snowflake has that a small business should strive for - uniqueness. When the ice crystals that make up a snowflake all get together, they always assemble themselves in a new and different formation. Snowflakes always have a unique structure and a unique appearance.

•Do some Spring cleaning and have a garage sale with items you no longer need or use. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Price items so they will sell, not according to original purchase or sentimental value.

Making Money by Saving on Everyday Costs
•Only run the dishwasher and clothes washer when they are full. You will use the same amount of water and energy whether it is half-full or full. By doing so you can save $200 or more, depending on your usage.

•Wash clothes in cold water. You don’t need to use hot water with today’s laundry detergents.

•Turn your water heater down to 120 degrees. Your water for cleaning and bathing will still be plenty hot and you will save heating costs.

•Use ceiling fans to circulate the air in your home. The air conditioner will not have to run as hard or often.

•Turn the temperature up a little on your refrigerator and freezer when you have fewer items to keep cold and when the items are frozen and don’t require as cold an environment.

•Blinds and curtains will help cool your house in the summer and warm it in the winter. Use them

•If a grocery store is in your normal pathway when you are traveling to and from home, buy only what you need for a few days, especially for perishable items. You will save money on spoilage and on reduced refrigerator cooling costs.

•Predetermine your purchases: Non-grocery items should only be purchased when you need them, not just because you saw it on sale and always wanted one. Otherwise walk away. If you still want it later you can decide if you really need it and can afford it. Write a list for groceries and stick to it. Cut impulse spending.

•Make lunch at least a couple of days a week instead of eating out. Then do it more often until eating out is a treat or reward.

Save large plastic shopping bags to use for trash liners rather than buying them.
