Facts & Tips •Australian researchers have developed nose plugs that trap pollen from the air you breathe before it makes you sneeze or triggers watery eyes. The plugs are significantly more effective than most anti allergy medications.

•Allergies include food allergies, commonly to peanuts or milk, seasonal allergies to grass, weeds, tree pollen and molds, cat & dog allergies and skin allergies.

•Histamine released in the body as a reaction to allergens are responsible for the symptoms of an allergy.
•If an allergy is air bound, it usually affects the eyes, nose and lungs, while ingested allergens occur on the mouth and in the stomach or intestines or as hives and itchiness on the skin.
•Reactions to allergies are rated as mild, moderate and severe (anaphylactic). Mild reactions do dot spread, moderate reactions do spread and severe reactions are considered life threatening.
•Most allergies are inherited. If a single parent has an allergy there is a 50% chance a child will have an allergy. The risk jumps to 75% if both parents have allergies.
•Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is a natural therapy of putting drops of the allergen that causes you problems under your tongue and then swallowing. Because the gastrointestinal system does not react hyperactively to the allergens you are able to develop a slow tolerance to the allergy. It is not approved by the US FDA yet, but has been used in other countries for years.
