•There are two types of acne - non-inflammatory and inflammatory.

•Non-inflammatory acne includes whiteheads (plugged skin follicles beneath the skin) and blackheads (larger, darker plugged pores that push to through the skin’s surface.)

•Inflammatory acne includes papules (which appear as sensitive pink or red bumps on the skin) and pustules (similar to papules but red at the base with a yellowish or white tip)

•Overwashing the face may leave it dried out and irritate acne. Use a soft soap and gently wash the face 2 to 3 times daily. After sweating, such as from physical activity is a good time to wash your face also.

•Avoid touching your face with hands or anything your hands touch such as cell phones. The oil and bacteria from your hands can clog pores.

•Most teenage acne clears up naturally during the teen years, but some people with heavy acne struggle into their twenties and even thirties. Some adults never experience acne until they reach adulthood.

Salicylic acid , especially when used with SD Alcohol 40, is very effective at preventing whiteheads and blackheads by cleaning oils and dead skin, thus preventing clogged pores.

Benzoyl peroxide is good at reducing oil production.
